Most new travelers to the area will want to experience the section of the trail between Blackwell, Tiadaghton and Darling Run, but if you are making this a quick trip, from say Harrisburg, or Philly, etc., you may want to Go 9.8 miles; stay straight on SR 287 N. Go 11.7 miles, and turn right onto SR 287/Main St. Go 0.3 mile, and stay straight on US 6/SR287/-Roosevelt Hwy. Somebody has got to get out there with an odometer and note the mileages of the various stops and someone has to put up some sort of highway signs telling where to turn off to find the trail access points in the southern towns. Most of the trail is quiet and free of road noise and the villages you pass through are tiny. At the very end of the trail is Pag-Omar where sandwiches drinks and ice cream is available. They have the best blueberries we ever tasted!! The lunch was fantastic, the Waterville Tavern is a great stop, they even have a bike rack. As you continue south from Cammal, it is 5.4 miles to Dry Run and then another 2.3 miles to the Waterville Access Area. It was well worth the fee. Located four miles south of Tiadaghton, this stream is home to three easy-to-reach waterfalls, though they cannot be seen from the trail. Our go to hotel is best Western and I have to say the room was cleaner than any other we have stayed in. The nice folks at Pine Creek Outfitters (in Ansonia) drove our car down to the Waterville parking area. I have never encountered so many rude riders on Sunday. Saw flock of common mergansers, three deer, one with a fawn and a heron. Water in the creek was low due to lack of rainfall during the summer but views of creek with early fog in the mtns and later blue skies was fantastic. The ride down the trail back to Jersey Shore on day 2 was much easier. Dog Lovers will happy to know that our furry friends are allowed on the trail. We managed to get as far as the Jersey Mills post office and then decided to head back. Also, probably contact Pine Creek Outfitters and have them take my car to Rattlesnake Rock. There are streams, springs and puddles that pets like to drink from, but I always bring fresh water and a small bowl. The morning was reasonably cool. The only con about starting from the southernmost entrance is there are some roads to crossover, so be very careful when doing so. Its got lots of nice rocks and flat, level gravel that we can sun ourselves on. The gravel requires more effort than asphalt, and the fact that it is almost completely level requires non-stop peddling, which gets tiring. I just rode this trail on 8/28, rode the entire length to mile marker 63 in seven hours. Beautiful ride. While its not enough to coast, the slope does help to make things a bit easier traveling downstream, than if you were to start in the south and head north. Camping is restricted to limited areas and requires a DCNR permit in advance. This 30-foot waterfall can be seen from the trail, but its even better to see up close.
